OSHAWA, ON - The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) announced today that Ken Appleby has been named the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending May 10, after posting a 2-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .962.

Appleby made 50 saves in two starts between the pipes backstopping the Generals to a 2-0 series lead against the Erie Otters in the Rogers OHL Championship Series for the Robertson Cup. Appleby's efforts helped limit the Otters' high-powered offense to single goal outputs for the first time in the post-season. He made 18 saves on Friday night in game one, as part of the Generals' 4-1 victory, then earned first star honours in game two on Saturday with a 32-save performance in the 5-1 triumph. Saturday's win earned him his fifth-straight playoff victory and league-high 14th win of the post-season. The series continues with game three on Monday and game four on Wednesday night in Erie.

"I'm so happy that Ken has been recognized for all his hard work, "says Oshawa Generals General Manager, Roger Hunt. "We are very proud of him."

The North Bay native had an impressive regular season with the Generals, with a league-high save percentage of .924 in 50 games played. He set a Generals franchise record for the most wins as a goaltender with 38, and earned the Dave Pinkney Trophy along with Jeremy Brodeur, for allowing the fewest goals in the OHL, with just 157 against.
