El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

The El Paso Chihuahuas were down by two runs with one out and nobody on base in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday before coming back to score three runs and win 3-2. It was the first walk-off win of the season for El Paso.

After three scoreless innings to start the game, Las Vegas struck first on Dan Rohlfing's two-run home run, his first homer of the season. The 2-0 score held all the way until the bottom of the ninth.

Las Vegas starter Steven Matz pitched seven scoreless innings Sunday and struck out seven Chihuahuas. Matz now leads the Pacific Coast League with 45 strikeouts.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Chihuahuas put multiple runners on for the first time. Matz fell behind pinch-hitter Jake Goebbert 3-0 but came back to strike him out and leave two runners on base.

Travis Taijeron made a diving catch on Brett Wallace's line drive to right field to begin the bottom of the ninth. El Paso then strung together four consecutive singles, including a game-tying ground ball hit by Rico Noel. Taylor Lindsey's pinch-hit walk loaded the bases for Rymer Liriano, who chopped a ground ball over the pitcher's mound to score Alex Dickerson with the winning run.

El Paso manager Pat Murphy was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the ninth inning, which was the first time a Chihuahua was tossed in 2015.
