Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

ADELANTO, CA - Kenley Jansen tossed a perfect inning in his fourth rehab appearance with Rancho Cucamonga and the Quakes pounded out 14 hits in a 9-3 victory at High Desert on Saturday night.

The Dodgers' closer, who continues his recovery from offseason left foot surgery, threw 12 pitches and struck out one of the three Mavericks' batters he faced. Jansen has now tossed three and two-third innings in a Quakes' uniform this season, with three of those appearances resulting in scoreless innings.

Rancho Cucamonga (17-13) jumped ahead early against High Desert starter Cole Wiper (1-1). Devan Ahart drew a leadoff walk in the top of the first inning and stole second base. Dillon Moyer to left field, but Ahart remained at second base as the ball dropped in front of Zach Cone. Brandon Trinkwon bunted for a single, loading the bases. Kyle Farmer grounded into a fielder's choice, scoring Ahart. Cody Bellinger then delivered an RBI groundout, giving the Quakes a 2-0 lead.

The visitors doubled that margin in the second. Paul Hoenecke blooped a single to center and advanced to second on Rob Garvey's sacrifice bunt. Jeremy Rathjen ripped a double down the right field line, plating Hoenecke. Moyer then singled to left, chasing Rathjen home for a 4-0 Quakes' advantage.

High Desert (14-15) got on the board in the bottom of the second against Jeff Brigham (1-2), the originally-scheduled starter who followed Jansen out of the bullpen. Alex Burg led off the inning with a single to left and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Guzman drove home Burg with a triple to center field. Kellin Deglan's RBI groundout scored Guzman to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Quakes flexed some muscle in the top of the third. Cody Bellinger launched his team-leading fifth home run of the year and second in as many nights, a solo blast to right field to make it a 5-2 game.

The Mavericks responded with a long ball of their own in the fourth. Preston Beck hit a towering solo homer to right field, trimming the margin to 5-3.

Rancho Cucamonga got that run back in the top of the fifth. Ahart singled, Moyer doubled and Trinkwon plated Ahart with an RBI groundout, reestablishing the Quakes' lead at 6-3.

The South Division leaders added to their total in the seventh against the High Desert bullpen. Trinkwon doubled to left field against reliever Ryne Slack, then scored when Slack's replacement, Pat Kaminska, gave up a triple by Farmer to the right-center field gap. Bellinger followed with a single to plate Farmer, giving the Quakes an 8-3 edge.

Rancho Cucamonga tacked on one more run in the eighth. Garvey singled and stole second base, then scored on Ahart's double down the right field line to extend the lead to 9-3.

After Brigham allowed three runs over five innings for his first High-A win, Michael Johnson tossed two scoreless innings and Rob Rogers shut the door in the ninth to even the series at one game apiece.

The Quakes will try to take the rubber game of the three-game set on Sunday afternoon in Adelanto. Rancho Cucamonga is scheduled to pitch right-hander Jose De Leon (2-1, 1.80 ERA), while High Desert will send righty Richelson Pena (0-2, 6.75 ERA) to the mound. First pitch at Heritage Field is scheduled for 1:05 pm. You can follow all the action on FOX Sports 1350 AM, beginning with the pregame show at 12:50.
