Peoria Chiefs News Release

Burlington, IA- The Peoria Chiefs got another strong starting outing and withstood a ninth-inning rally to beat the Burlington Bees 3-1 Saturday night. The win moves the Chiefs to 4-2 on the roadtrip and 16-14 on the season heading into Sunday's offday.

Fernando Baez and Keynan Middleton both pitched extremely well and kept the game scoreless into the sixth inning. Middleton blinked first as Collin Radack launched a solo home run over the left-field fence with one out in the top of the sixth. Baez kept the Bees off the board in the bottom of the inning and both teams went to the bullpen in the seventh.

The Chiefs grabbed a pair of runs on just one hit in the top of the seventh inning against Jake Jewell. Alex DeLeon was hit by a pitch and sacrificed to second before Steve Bean singled to put runners on the corners. Darren Seferina reached on an error at first base as DeLeon scored for a 2-0 Chiefs lead. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch and Oscar Mercado put the Chiefs on top 3-0 with a sacrifice fly to center.

Burlington threatened in the eighth against reliever Tyler Bray. Raul Linares appeared to be out at both first and second base on a pair of grounders but was called safe both times as the Bees had two on with nobody out. Erick Salcedo flew out to right-center and Magneuris Sierra threw Linares out at third before catching another flyball to end the inning.

The Bees stopped the shutout in the bottom of the ninth with an unearned run. Seferina made his first error of the season on a leadoff ground ball to second and Andrew Daniel's double to left cut the Chiefs lead to 3-1. Robby Rowland issued a walk before two straight flyouts ended the game.

Baez (2-2) earned the win allowing just two hits and two walks over six shutout innings while striking out seven. Bray allowed one single and struck out one in two shutout innings. Rowland earned his fifth save allowing one unearned run on one hit and one walk in his one inning.
