(Toledo, OH) Shane Berschbach had a goal and an assist to lead the Walleye to a 3-2 win in Game Five Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo leads the best of seven series three games to two with game six in Fort Wayne on Sunday.
Toledo started the scoring with a power play goal at 1:28 of the first period as Tyler Barnes (3rd) took a rebound and backhanded a shot through Komets goaltender Pat Nagle. Fort Wayne tied the game with a goal at 19:27 of the first.
The second period was owned by the Walleye as they scored twice. The first came from Troy Schwab (7th) at 3:06 on a perfect wrist shot for the second power play goal of the game. Shane Berschbach (5th) at 12:40 went five hole on backhand shot to put the Walleye in front 3-1 after two periods of play.
Fort Wayne closed to within one at 11:33 of the third period but Toledo shut them down from there.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jeff Lerg stopped 32 of the 34 shots he faced in the contest and has a record of 6-5 in the playoffs. The power play goal in the first period snapped a 0-15 streak in the series. The 5,917 fans set a new single game Toledo ECHL playoff record, breaking the old record of 5,767 on April 18, 2015. The home team has won every game so far in this series.
