Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC News Release

PITTSBURGH (May 8, 2015) - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds embark on the team's farthest journey of the USL regular season this weekend with a 1,300-mile round trip to Charleston, South Carolina.

Last Sunday's 3-2 loss at New York Red Bulls II kept the Hounds (2-2-2, eight points) in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Third-placed Charleston Battery (4-0-2, 14 points) is one of three undefeated teams remaining in the division.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening at Charleston's Blackbaud Stadium. Hounds fans will be able to watch the game live at the Highmark Stadium sports bar or via Riverhounds.com.

"Charleston always fields a competitive side and it's no surprise that they're off to another great start this year," said Riverhounds head coach Mark Steffens.

"It's another tough test but one that we will relish."

Saturday's clash brings together two of the highest scoring offenses this season. Pittsburgh leads USL with a goal average of 2.5 per game. Charleston sits third in that category with 2.17 goals per game. Cuban striker Heviel Cordoves leads the Battery with three goals.

Neither team has looked particularly solid at the other end this season. Charleston's 2-0 win over the Harrisburg City Islanders on April 4 is the only shutout recorded by either side in 12 combined games this season.

The Hounds failed to score in three games against the Battery last season, tying 0-0 at Highmark Stadium and losing twice at Blackbaud.

Rob Vincent, the league's leading scorer with six goals, is expected to start on Saturday despite leaving last weekend's game with a sprained knee ligament.

Defender Anthony Arena is questionable after suffering a neck strain in training this week. Matt Dallman should also be free to continue his comeback from a twisted ankle after lasting 60 minutes at Red Bull Arena.

Sterling Flunder is definitely ruled out of the trip due to illness.

Limited tickets remain for the Hounds' next home game against the Richmond Kickers on May 16 at 7 p.m. Visit Riverhounds.com for ticket information or call the Highmark Stadium box office on (412) 325-7241 to speak to a ticket representative.
