Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Dodgers' closer Kenley Jansen allowed three runs in his third rehab appearance with Rancho Cucamonga, leading to a 7-2 Quakes' loss to Visalia in front of 3,209 fans at LoanMart Field in a Wednesday matinee.

Jansen (0-1) lasted two-thirds of an inning and reached his limit of 25 pitches upon exiting. The right-hander allowed three runs, two hits, one walk and struck out two among the five batters he faced. Jansen had not allowed a run in either of his two previous rehab outings.

Visalia (20-7) didn't appear intimidated by the Major Leaguer in the top of the first. Kevin Medrano worked out a leadoff walk against Jansen before Stewart Ijames lined a homer over the right field fence to make it 2-0. With two outs, Domingo Leyba roped a single off the edge of second baseman Brandon Trinkwon's glove, forcing Jansen's removal from the game as Victor Araujo entered from the bullpen. George Roberts doubled off the right field fence against Araujo, plating Leyba for a 3-0 Rawhide lead.

The Quakes (15-12) flexed some muscle in the bottom of the second against Visalia starter Zack Godley (6-0). Cody Bellinger singled up the middle and Joey Curletta crushed a home run to deep left-center field. The two-run blast was Curletta's third of the season, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Rawhide answered in the top of the third against right-hander Johnathan Richy. Ijames launched a solo homer to center field for his second of the game and California League-leading ninth of the year, giving Visalia a 4-2 advantage.

Godley settled in and shut Rancho Cucamonga down in the middle innings, retiring nine of the last ten batters he faced. The right-hander with the league's best record and ERA tossed six frames, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out six.

Visalia added some insurance runs against Richy in the seventh. Chuck Taylor and Medrano singled to open the inning. A sacrifice bunt by Breland Almadova moved the runners to second and third. After Ijames was intentionally walked, Leyba delivered a two-run single to right field, pushing the visitors' lead to 6-2.

The Rawhide tacked on another one in the eighth. Tyler Baker walked and Jamie Westbrook singled against Richy before Taylor grounded into a fielder's choice, placing runners at the corners. Almadova walked to load the bases, then a passed ball against catcher Spencer Navin allowed Baker to race home, making it a 7-2 contest.

Visalia reliever Jose Jose pitched a perfect ninth inning to send Rancho Cucamonga to its second loss of the series.

The two division leaders will go head-to-head in the series finale on Thursday night, with the Quakes seeking a split in the four-game set. Rancho Cucamonga will send right-hander Zack Bird (2-1, 5.23 ERA) to the hill, while Visalia responds with righty Blayne Weller (1-2, 2.79 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm. You can follow all the action on FOX Sports 1350 AM, beginning with the pregame show at 6:50.

The series finale against the Rawhide is a Thirsty Thursday, featuring 16-ounce domestic drafts and 24-ounce Pepsi products for $3. In addition, 16-ounce premium drafts, wine, champagne and margaritas are available for $4! Tickets for all remaining home games are available at (909) 481-5000 or at rcquakes.com.
