Bullpen Perseveres in 3-1 Edging of Rochester
May 6, 2015 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Tribe relievers Deolis Guerra and Blake Wood combined for 3 2/3 scoreless innings, Jose Tabata had three hits and the winning run and the Indianapolis Indians defeated the Rochester Red Wings 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field.
Guerra took over for starter Nick Kingham, who pitched 5 1/3 innings of one-run ball before exiting on a 2-0 count with one out in the sixth.
Facing his former team, Guerra (2-1) recorded seven critical outs while allowing just three singles with one strikeout. He induced a comebacker from his final batter to begin a rundown that erased Rochester's (15-10) lead runner between third base and home.
Closer Blake Wood inherited and stranded two runners in the eighth and struck out two in a perfect ninth to convert his league-leading seventh save for the Indians (16-11).
Tabata finished 3-for-4 and scored the deciding run on an infield single from Tony Sanchez.
