Fightins hooked by Fisher Cats

Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Fightin Phils (15-10) couldn't pull off the sweep on Wednesday as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (14-13) defeated them 5-2. Zach Eflin left after five innings and allowed five runs.
Zach Eflin (2-2) and Matt Boyd (2-1) exchanged zero's through the first three innings until the top of the fourth inning. Eflin retired the first two batters until the Fisher Cats rallied with two outs. KC Hobson got things started with a single then moved to second on a walk to Emilio Guerrero. Jack Murphy hit a two-run double off Eflin to give the Fisher Cats a 2-0 lead. Jorge Flores brought Murphy home with a RBI single to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Fightin Phils finally got to Boyd in the bottom of the fourth inning. Tony Thomas registered the first hit of the game for Reading on a single off Boyd. Aaron Altherr would bring him home with a RBI double to cut the Fisher Cats lead to 3-1. New Hampshire extended their lead off Eflin 5-1 in the top of the fifth inning as Dwight Smith hit a RBI double and Jake Fox hit a RBI single.
Zach Eflin left the game after five innings as Anthony Vasquez entered the game in the sixth inning. Eflin (2-2) allowed five runs off eight hits in five innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Altherr hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth inning off Boyd to cut the Fisher Cats lead to 5-2. Boyd left the game after 6 1/3 innings. Danny Barnes entered the game and tossed a scoreless inning.
Anthony Vasquez pitched two scoreless innings in relief while Mike Nesseth did the same in relief. The Fightin Phils were 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position.
The Fightin Phils will resume play on Friday evening at Jerry Uht Park in Erie, Pennsylvania against the Erie SeaWolves. First pitch is at 6:35 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 5:35 pm.
