May 6, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - One of Northwest Arkansas' new additions in the 2015 season, first baseman Balbino Fuenmayor put up a monster week from April 27 - May 3 to earn Texas League Player of the Week honors. Fuenmayor went 15 for 27 with 6 runs scored, 12 RBI and a home run during this past week.

The first baseman has continued the hot hitting into this week with a solo home run against the Tulsa Drillers on Monday to conclude the Naturals' homestand, and then pitched in with a hit during last night's victory over the Springfield Cardinals. Over his last 10 games, Fuenmayor is batting .429 with 3 home runs, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored.

A native of Valencia Edo Carabobo, Venezuela, Fuenmayor signed as a non-drafted free agent at 16 years old with the Toronto Blue Jays in August of 2006.  Fuenmayor logged perhaps his best season in Toronto's organization during the 2012 season with the Low-A Vancouver Canadians.  He hit .282 with 9 home runs and 52 RBI in 283 at-bats.

After spending parts of seven seasons in the Blue Jays' organization, Fuenmayor played his 2014 season in the Canadian-American Association Independent League as a member of Les Capitales de Quebec. He would go on to smash 23 home runs with 99 RBI and a .347 batting average in 95 games and earn a minor-league contract from the Kansas City Royals. The hot hitting continued into Venezuelan Winter League this past offseason, .315 batting average with 10 home runs and 38 RBI in 42 games, .

Northwest Arkansas looks for their 11th straight win with a day game from Hammons Field today. Right-hander Miguel Almonte (1-1, 5.00) hopes to build off his seven-strikeout performance from May 1 against Tulsa as he duels against right-hander Nick Petree (0-2, 5.87) in the 11:10 a.m. start.
