New Britain's Trevor Story Named April Player of the Month

Portland, ME -- The Eastern League is pleased to announce that New Britain Rock Cats shortstop Trevor Story has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of April. Story batted .361 (32-for-82) with four doubles, two triples, four home runs, 20 RBIs, 15 runs scored, four stolen bases, a .460 on-base percentage and a .639 slugging percentage in 20 games during the opening month of the season for the Rock Cats. The 22-year old reached base at least once in 17 of the games he played in during the month and had multiple hits in seven of those games, including going 3-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs and three runs scored in New Britain's 13-6 win at Harrisburg on April 27th. The 6'1", 180 lb. slugger finished the month of April leading all Eastern League players in total bases (46), RBIs (20), on-base percentage (.460), slugging percentage (.639) and OPS (1.099). He also tied for the league lead in hits (26), home runs (4) and walks (13) and finished ranked among the monthly leaders in batting average (.361-2nd), triples (2-tied 3rd), extra-base hits (10-tied 4th) and runs scored (15-5th).

Story, who is a native of Irving, Texas, has continued his hot hitting into the month of May to raise his batting average to .388, which currently leads the Eastern League. He is also leading the league in on-base percentage (.490), slugging percentage (.706), OPS (1.196) and total bases (60) and is tied for the league lead in home runs (5), extra-base hits (15), hits (33) and runs scored (20).

Trevor, who entered the season rated by MLB.com as the 13th best prospect in the Rockies organization, was selected by the Colorado Rockies with the 45th overall pick of the 2011 draft out of Irving High School in Texas.
