Augusta GreenJackets News Release

AUGUSTA, GA: In the final game of a four game series against the Delmarva Shorebirds (15-9), the Augusta GreenJackets (11-14) let a two run lead slip away from them in the top of the ninth inning. The Shorebirds would end up tacking on a run in the top of the tenth inning to win the game with a score of four to three.

The past two games of the series it has been the Shorebirds who have jumped out to an early lead, tonight the GreenJackets were able to put up the first run of the night during the first inning. Seth Harrison was a one-man show in the first inning. Harrison singled to center field for a base hit, then stole second base, and finally made his way to third base on ball that got passed Shorebirds catcher Jonah Heim. Aramis Garcia then hit into a five-four fielders choice that allowed Harrison to score.

GreenJackets starting RHP Jose Reyes has had an impressive start to his 2015 campaign. Reyes has now started four games. He is 1-0 with an ERA of 0.43, and twenty strikeouts. Unfortunally Reyes has had to walk away with three no decisions. On Monday, May 4th Reyes continued his dominance on the mound by pitching a season high six innings and striking out seven. Reyes left the game at the end of the sixth inning with the score tied at one and adding another no decision effort to his resume.

In a tied ball game during the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs and Aramis Garcia at second base, second baseman Will Callaway (who is on a five game hitting streak) ripped a double back up the middle to break the tie and give the GreenJackets a two to one lead. The double was Callaway's fourth of the season.

SAL League player of the week and the GreenJackets go to batter this homestand Jonah Arenado came up big once again. With Johneshwy Fargas on second base, Arenado hit a single to center field to give the GreenJackets an insurance run heading into the top of the ninth inning with the score three to one in favor of the GreenJackets. The RBI was Arenado's fourth RBI of the series and eighteenth on the season.

At the top of the ninth inning GreenJackets manager Nestor Rojas made a move to the bullpen for the big RHP Carlos Alvarado (1-0, ERA 4.26). With one out Riley Palmer reached first base on an infield single, setting up Jamil Moquete as the tying run as he stepped to home plate. Moquete hit a towering home run to left field to tie the game at three a piece. After the two run homer, Alvarado was able to shut down the Shorebirds for the rest of the ninth inning. The GreenJackets had no answer in the bottom of the ninth inning, thus sending the game into extra innings.

In the top of the tenth inning three members of the GreenJackets team were ejected from the game. Shortstop Travious Relaford, Manager Nestor Rojas, and hitting coach Todd Linden all were ejected after arguing with home plate and field umpires. Even with all the arguing and ejections that had occurred there was play still going on in between the lines. With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the tenth inning, Jamil Moquete drew a walk from GreenJackets pitcher Reyes Moronta to give the Shorebirds the go ahead run. The run was enough for Shorebirds closer Donnie Hart to be able to hold on to in the bottom of the tenth.

Hart collected his seventh save, Dariel Delgado picked up his third win, and Reyes Moronta took his second loss of the season. Delmarva will win the series by taking three games out of four from the GreenJackets. Delmarva goes home for a series against the Ashville Tourist and the GreenJackets will hit the road for three game series against the Lakewood BlueClaws starting on Tuesday night. The GreenJackets will return home on Thursday, May 14th. This will be another Thirsty Thursday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium. When guests can enjoy one-dollar small draft beers and sodas all night long thanks to our friends Twin Peaks and Country Club Dance Hall and Saloon. Thursday will also be a tribute night to all Firefighters.
