Cape Breton Eagles News Release
Sydney - The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles announced today that they have declared Michael O'Leary (1998-01-01) as defected to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In consequence, O'Leary is no longer a member of the team and the Screaming Eagles will be compensated with the 19th pick overall at the upcoming 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft this June.
The Screaming Eagles drafted O'Leary 14th overall at the 2014 QMJHL Entry Draft despite speculation that his intention was to play in the United States.
"The O'Leary's family adviser has informed us that despite our efforts to bring him to the QMJHL, the family is leaning heavily towards the US college route," said Screaming Eagles General Manager and Head Coach Marc-Andre Dumont. "We appreciate their consideration and wish them the best of luck."
Michael O'Leary is committed to Cornell University for 2017. Cornell is a member of the Ivy League in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division One Hockey.
The 2015 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft will take place Saturday, June 6th in Sherbrooke, Quebec. The Screaming Eagles currently hold three picks in the first round: fourth, sixth and 19th overall.
