Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants have the third overall selection in the 2015 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft which is set to take place this Thursday, May 7th, in Calgary at 7:30am (PDT). The first round of the WHL Bantam Draft will be webcast live on WHL.ca.
The Giants own eleven picks in this year's draft which will see WHL teams select players born in the year 2000.
Giants' 2015 WHL Bantam Draft Picks
Round 1 - 3rd overall
Round 2 - 27th overall (acquired from Tri-City)
Round 3 - 47th overall
Round 4 - 79th overall (acquired from Victoria)
Round 7 - 135th overall
Round 8 - 157th overall
Round 9 - 179th overall
Round 10 - 201st overall
Round 11 - 223rd overall
Round 11 - 231st overall (acquired from Edmonton)
Round 12 - 245th overall
The Giants had two picks in the first round of last year's draft, selecting Saskatoon's Dawson Holt at 8th overall and Kamloops native Brendan Semchuk at 10th overall.
This year's draft will mark only the second time that the Giants have drafted at third overall. Vancouver selected blue liner Mark Fistric with their first ever draft pick at third overall in 2001. The G-Men have held a top five pick on three other occasions, taking Gilbert Brule at first overall in 2002, Daniel Bertram at second overall in 2002 and Tyler Benson at first overall in 2013.
The Giants have drafted a number of players over the years who have gone on to play in the NHL including Brendan Gallagher, Evander Kane, James Wright, Lance Bouma, Jonathon Blum and Craig Cunningham among others.
