Otters' Connor McDavid Named Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week

May 4, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) News Release

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced that 2015 NHL Draft top prospect Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters is the Pioneer Energy OHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending May 3 after leading the league with 10 points in three games scoring once with nine assists.

McDavid earns the award for the second straight week and third time this post-season after helping the Otters capture the Wayne Gretzky Trophy as Western Conference Champions with a six-game series win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. McDavid extended his playoff-long point-streak to 15 games on Saturday with his second five-point performance of these playoffs scoring the game-winning goal and four assists as first star of the 7-3 series clinching victory. The Otters' captain also notched an assist on Thursday in the 4-2 Game 5 loss to the Greyhounds, and four assists in the 7-5 Game 4 win last Tuesday earning second star honours. The Otters return to the Rogers OHL Championship Series for the first time since winning the Robertson Cup in 2002 and will face the Eastern Conference Champion Oshawa Generals.

McDavid, an 18-year-old from Newmarket, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Otters. The OHL's Scholastic Player of the Year and playoff scoring leader has 42 points in 15 games after finishing the regular season campaign with 120 points in 47 games. His 42 playoff points include 19 goals and 23 assists and is the sixth highest playoff point total in OHL history with Justin Papineau (Belleville 1999) and Jason Dawe (Peterborough 1993) sharing the record of 51 points both in 21 games played.

In goal, Ken Appleby helped the Generals capture their first Bobby Orr Trophy over the North Bay Battalion posting a 3-0-1-0 record last week with a goals-against-average of 1.44 and save percentage of .949.
