Scorpions Fall 1-2 in Jacksonville on Armada Goal in Stoppage Time

San Antonio Scorpions News Release

The San Antonio Scorpions dropped to 0-1-3 on the season as they lost 1-2 on a goal in the 93' minute in their first ever trip to Jacksonville

All the game-deciding action came very early and very late in the inaugural NASL match at Community First Park in Jacksonville. The game was 1-1 and looked to be headed for a draw until the 93' minute when Armada forward Akheil Barrett threaded a pass through the heart of the San Antonio defense to Alhassane Keita. The former La Liga striker calmly collected the ball and took his chance well as he place the ball at the far post before Scorpions goalie Daryl Sattler could get to the ground and make the save.

Much of the second half was a physical battle in the midfield as the teams dueled for possession and to control the pace of play. The first half, however, started off with a bang as Jacksonville was on the board after only four minutes of action. Argentinean playmaker Marcos Flores sent forward Matt Millien in 1-on-1 on Sattler, and the Haitian National Team regular did not miss his chance and gave his side the early 1-0 lead.

But the Scorpions tied the game 1-1 only five minutes later on Omar Cummings' third goal of the season, tying him for the league lead. On the left wing in the attacking third, fullback Stephen DeRoux nutmegged an Armada defender, who was forced to pull the Jamaican down and hand the Scorpions a free kick. Midfielder and free kick specialist Rafael Castillo sent in an out-swinger from 30 yards that found defender Nana Attakora at the far post. Attakora knocked the ball high and back into the middle of the box where Cummings rose with his back towards the goal and scissor-kicked the ball back over his left shoulder and into the goal.

Next week, the Scorpions will be back at Toyota Field to take on the visiting Carolina RailHawks. The Armada will also be at home where they'll face Indy Eleven.
