Walleye Pull Away from Komets 5-2

(Toledo, OH) Troy Schwab had a pair of goals and Neil Conway had 35 saves to lead the Walleye to a 5-2 win over Fort Wayne on Saturday night. Toledo leads the best of seven series 2-0 with game three coming Tuesday night in Fort Wayne.

Justin Mercier (4th) gave the Walleye a 1-0 lead at 6:27 of the first period as he deflected the Justin Daniels pass through Fort Wayne goaltender Roman Will. The Komets tied the game when Eric Faille deflected a shot past Neil Conway at 7:45. Troy Schwab (4th) slammed a rebound in at 9:50 to give Toledo a 2-1 lead after the first period.

In the second period, Schwab was at it again tipping in a perfect pass from Tyler Barnes at 10:08 for a 3-1 advantage. Fort Wayne pulled to within one when Matthew Pistilli wristed in a shot at 15:56 of the period.

Fort Wayne controlled much of the third period until Scott Czarnowczan set up Justin Mercier on a breakaway and he scored at 13:05. At 16:27, Tyler Barnes found Shane Berschbach (4th) at the side of the Komets net for a deflection that finished the scoring.
