Peoria Rivermen News Release

PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen gathered two more end-of-season awards on Friday as athletic trainer Michelle Novak and equipment manager Andrew Cohen were named best in their positions in the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Novak became the first female athletic trainer in the three-decade history of Peoria professional hockey when she was hired before the 2013-14 season. The native of Normal earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training in 2009 and her master's degree in psychology of sport and exercise in 2011, both from Illinois State University.

Cohen also just completed his second season with the Rivermen. Prior to returning to his native Peoria, he was an equipment assistant with the Dallas Stars of the National Hockey League and was equipment manager with the North American Hockey League's Texas Tornado. Cohen is a graduate of Dunlap High School and Eureka College.

The Rivermen have now earned four post-season individual awards from the SPHL, including Easton Coach of the Year Jean-Guy Trudel and Sher-Wood Goaltender of the Year Kyle Rank.

Season ticket packages and group ticket options for the 2015-16 campaign are on sale now through the Rivermen office, located at 201 S.W. Jefferson Street, or over the phone at (309) 676-1040.
