 Oshawa Generals

A Look Ahead: Gens Are Back for Game Five this Friday

April 29, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

What a series it's been so far! With two of three overtime games already, the Generals are currently down 2-1 in a best-of-seven series with the Battalion. The boys are back in North Bay tonight for game four, before returning home for game five this Friday, May 1 at 7:35p.m.

It's been a challenging series for both sides. The Generals and the Battalion are pretty similar teams with their size, skill and outstanding goaltending. Both Ken Appleby and Jake Smith have made it difficult for players to get pucks behind them. The only high-scoring game remains game number one when the Gens fell 6-1 to their opponents. The 1-0 series lead didn't last too long as Oshawa was able to tie the series at 1-1 with a 1-0 overtime goal scored by Dakota Mermis on Sunday, Apr. 26. However, the Battalion took the lead again in Tuesday night's game after the two teams went into overtime for the second straight matchup. With no score after 60 minutes, Ryan Kujawinski scored 10:28 into extra time to lift the North Bay Battalion to a 2-1 victory. Despite the final score, it was Oshawa who outworked the Battalion with multiple great scoring opportunities. Down a game in the series, the Generals are hungry for a win that can even things up again, before they head back for game five on home ice this Friday.

Heading into Friday's matchup, the Generals know who they need to look for and what they need to do. Jake Smith has been a brick wall in net, so Oshawa will need to keep putting pucks on him and find ways to score goals. While Nick Paul and Mike Amadio continue to be the top scorers for the Battalion, Oshawa will need to shutdown Nick Moutrey, who has crept his way up the scoring list. With two goals and one assist in the first three games of the series, Moutrey will be one to watch out for.

As for North Bay, they have also run into a goaltender that doesn't make it easy to score goals. Appleby has been the rock of the team all year, securing a league-high six shutouts in the regular season, and already two shutouts in the 2015 playoffs. After blocking all 33 shots during Sunday's game, the North Bay native has put on quite the show for family and friends in his hometown, stopping another 32 shots in last night's game. Mike McCarron has also had a great playoff run so far. He has tallied 13 points in 13 playoff games and has used his size to compete hard every shift.

You can see the rivalry has already been built up over the last three games. In Tuesday night's game, Josh Brown dropped the gloves with Brendan Miller in the opening period. With both teams playing a physical series, things are likely to keep heating up. It'll be a big game on Friday, with the guys back at home for game five. We encourage the crowd to be loud and wear red to show support for the team! If you're attending the game, come check out our Ontario Motor Sales pre-game tailgate party, which will begin at 5:30p.m. Fans can grab some food and a cold one before heading into the GM Centre to enjoy some playoff hockey. We'll also have lots of things to do for kids including face-painting, balloons from Bubba the Clown, an inflatable and a "make your own sign" station.

If you haven't purchased tickets for Friday's game, click here, visit the GM Centre Box Office, or call 1-877-436-8811. Game six will likely take place on Sunday in North Bay, following a win for the Generals tonight or on Friday. If necessary, game seven will take place on Monday, May 1 at 7:35p.m.
