Hammerheads Take Series

Jupiter Hammerheads News Release

JUPITER, Fla. - The Jupiter Hammerheads defeated the St. Lucie Mets 4-1 on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The victory was the Hammerheads' fourth over the Mets in six games this year and also allowed them to take their second series over St. Lucie this season.

The Hammerheads (8-12) were able to use a dominate start on the mound from Scott Lyman (3-1) and four Mets errors to take the series finale. Lyman pitched seven full innings, the longest outing for a Hammerhead pitcher this season, to earn his third victory, another team-high. Lyman allowed only one earned run on three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts. The eight strikeouts was also a new team-high for an individual Hammerhead pitcher.

St. Lucie (10-10) struggled defensively in the contest and committed four errors one night after the Hammerheads had committed four errors of their own. All four Mets errors occurred in the first four innings. Jupiter was able to draw first blood on the first error to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Cameron Flynn led off with a double and then was moved to third on a sacrifice bunt from Chris Hoo. Yefri Perez then attempted a sacrifice fly to center field, but it wasn't deep enough to initially allow Flynn to score. A wild throw home that made its way to the backstop then allowed Flynn to cross the plate after tagging up.

The Mets scored their only run in the third when they answered Jupiter to tie the game at one. St. Lucie used back-to-back singles from Amed Rosario and Yeixon Ruiz along with a RBI-groundout from Adrien Abreu to plate Rosario to even the game.

In the home half of the third, two Mets errors allowed Felix Munoz to reach second, but he was left stranded. The Hammerheads returned to their scoring ways in the fourth frame. Flynn once again started the effort, this time being hit by a pitch to reach the base path. Hoo then moved Flynn to third on a single deep in the hole at second. A wild pitch then plated Flynn. Hoo also scored because of an error by the pitcher that knocked the ball into the dugout as he was rounding second and awarded two bases.

The final run was produced in the seventh for the Hammerheads to cap the scoring at 4-1. Brian Anderson reached with a one-out single then scored two pitches later after a double from Munoz to deep left field.

J.T. Riddle led the attack at the plate with a 2-4 performance, while Flynn added two runs scored.

Miller Diaz was the losing pitcher for the Mets. Diaz pitched just four innings and gave up three earned runs on five hits. Diaz also gave up two free passes and fanned three batters.

The Hammerheads will take momentum into the FSL off day on Wednesday after picking up the series victory. Jupiter will return to action on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. as they renew the Feathers vs. Fins rivalry against the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium.
