Charlottetown Islanders News Release

Charlottetown - Charlottetown Islanders General Manager Grant Sonier announced today that Head Coach Gordie Dwyer has been relieved of his Head Coaching duties effective immediately.

Dwyer recently completed his fourth season as head coach. In 272 regular season games Dwyer had 116 wins, 156 losses, for a .426 winning percentage and in 20 playoff games has, 6 wins, 16 losses, for a .300 winning percentage.

On the departure Sonier had the following to say.

"We thank Gordie for his commitment and dedication to the team over the past four seasons. He is a tireless worker who came to the rink every day with a professional approach and has set the standard for this franchise."

The search for a new Head Coach begins immediately as the Islanders prepare for the 2015-16 season. Sonier says the expectations are high for the upcoming season.

"This team is ready to take the next step", says Sonier "We believe as an organization that we have the right group of players and are anticipating a long playoff run next season."

The past season saw the Islanders improve to 9th place from 14th place in the regular season and won their first playoff round in 11 years by beating the Sherbrook Phoenix in six games before falling to the Quebec Remparts four straight in round two.

"We stripped this team down and built it back up and I have every confidence that next season will yield a level of success that the franchise has yet to see", says Sonier. "The decision to hand the reigns over to a new head coach is one I felt had to be done in order to get the most out of this group."
