Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis Redbirds dropped their third straight contest to the visiting Round Rock Express by an 8-3 margin on Monday evening at AutoZone Park.
With the loss, Memphis fell to 6-12 overall this year and has lost six of seven games to Round Rock in the season series.
The Memphis offense was limited to three singles on the night by Ed Easley, Xavier Scruggs, and Greg Garcia, marking the first time this season the club was unable to record an extra-base hit.
Round Rock jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first against spot starter Nick Greenwood (2-1), as leadoff man Ryan Strausborger doubled and came home on a Memphis fielding error.
Memphis answered with two runs in the next frame for a 2-1 advantage. Dean Anna began the inning with a walk and moved to second on Easley's single to center. Later in the inning, Scott Moore and Scruggs brought home two with a sacrifice fly and two-out RBI single.
Two innings later, the Express were able to get to Greenwood, attacking for four runs and 5-2 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Kyle Blanks crushed a double off the top of the centerfield wall.
Round Rock tacked on three more in the seventh for an 8-3 lead. With the bases loaded, Thomas Field and Ed Lucas brought home the first two runs with RBI singles, followed by Chris Gimenez hitting an RBI groundout.
Pitcher Miguel Socolovich tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to extend his season-opening shutout streak to 12.2 innings over his first seven outings.
Memphis and Round Rock conclude their series at 7:05 pm CT on Tuesday during King Cotton $1 Hot Dog Night. Memphis will send left-hander Tyler Lyons (1-1, 4.61) to the mound against right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez (1-2, 5.17) in the series finale.
After a league-wide off day on Wednesday, Memphis travels to New Orleans for a four-game series before returning home to AutoZone Park on May 4.
