Peterborough Petes News Release

(Zug, Switzerland)- Peterborough Petes defenceman Matt Spencer finished another impressive tournament with Team Canada on the weekend, winning a bronze medal at the IIHF World U18 Hockey Championship in Switzerland.

It is Canada's fourth straight medal at the world championship; it won bronze in 2012 and 2014, and gold in 2013. It is also Canada's seventh medal all-time at the IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship, having won three gold medals (2003, 2008, 2013), one silver (2005) and three bronze (2012, 2014, 2015).

Spencer, who originally hails from Oakville, Ontario, picked up an assist in the bronze medal game on Sunday, which Canada won 5-2 against the host Swiss. The defenceman is coming off his best OHL season to date, and is a top prospect for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in late June. Spencer won a gold medal at the 2014 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka U18 championship last year, with a team coached by Jody Hull.
