April 27, 2015 - Southern League (SL1)
Tennessee Smokies News Release

KODAK - The Southern League announced Monday that Tennessee Smokies first baseman Dan Vogelbach has been named the circuit's Player of the Week for the time period between April 20-26, marking the second consecutive week the 22-year-old has been honored by the circuit.

In the six games the infielder posted a .391 batting average (9-23), adding eight runs scored, three doubles, three homers and ten RBI, in addition to six walks, a .517 on-base percentage and .913 slugging percentage. The Florida native led all Southern Leaguers in that span in runs (eight), RBI, slugging percentage, extra-base hits (six) and total bases (21), in addition to tied for first in homers and on-base percentage, as well as tied for second in doubles and walks.

Vogelbach has gotten off to a torrid start at the plate in 2015, and has recorded a .444 mark (24-54), along with 11 runs, seven doubles, three homers, 13 RBI and 13 walks, in addition to a .552 on-base percentage and .741 slugging percentage. Entering play today, the Florida native leads Minor League Baseball in on-base percentage, as well as second in batting average and fourth in slugging percentage. In addition to pacing the Southern League in those three aforementioned categories, Vogelbach also ranks first in the circuit in hits (24), RBI (13), extra-base hits (ten), total bases (40) and walks (13), and has reached base in all 15 games played, recording at least one hit in all but one of those contests.

The 22-year-old was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the 2011 MLB Draft out of Bishop Verot High School in Florida, and was rated the No. eight first base prospect in baseball by MLB.com prior to this season. Vogelbach before the 2015 campaign also received recognition from Baseball America, who also ranked the left-handed slugger as the ninth-best farmhand in the Cubs minor league system.

Vogelbach becomes the first player in the Southern League to receive weekly honors in back-to-back weeks since former Smokies 3B Kris Bryant achieved that feat for the time periods of May 26-June 2 and June 2-9. Including Bryant, five different Smokies players earned Player or Pitcher of the Week honors last season, with outfielders Jorge Soler (July 7-14) and Rubi Silva (June 16-23), as well as pitchers Corey Black (April 21-28) and Dae-Eun Rhee (June 23-30) recognized.

Tennessee will look to extend a streak of their own tonight against the Chattanooga Lookouts, the Double-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, as they go for their fifth consecutive victory. The Smokies are expected to give the ball to RHP Corey Black (1-0, 1.80), Baseball America's 16th-best Cubs prospect, in the third game of the series, while the Lookouts are slated to counter with RHP Jose Berrios (1-1, 3.94), rated by the same publication as the No. 36 overall prospect. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from Smokies Stadium.

Tickets for that game, as well as all remaining home contests at Smokies Stadium, are on sale and can be purchased online at smokiesbaseball.com, or by calling the Smokies Ticket Office at 865-286-2300. Multi-game voucher packs and season tickets are also still available for purchase.
