Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

LAKE ELSINORE, CA - Rancho Cucamonga tied a season-high with its third straight loss, being dealt a 10-2 setback against Lake Elsinore in the series finale at The Diamond on Sunday afternoon.

The Storm (8-10) took advantage of some wildness by Quakes' starter Zack Bird (2-1) in the first inning. The right-hander issued consecutive walks to Auston Bousfield and Fernando Perez to start the rally. After Gabriel Quintana grounded into a fielder's choice, Bird walked Nick Schulz and Kyle Gaedele to force in a run. Marcus Davis then drove in two runs with a single to center, pushing Lake Elsinore to a 3-0 lead.

Bird, the 19th-best prospect in the Dodgers' system, according to Baseball America, surrendered three runs, one hit and five walks to force his early exit after one inning.

The home team doubled its lead in the second against Quakes' reliever Rob Rogers. River Stevens drew a leadoff walk and stole second. Bousfield walked, then Quintana reached on an error by third baseman Tyler Ogle to chase Stevens home. Gaedele singled to left field, plating two for a 6-0 Storm advantage.

Lake Elsinore tacked on some additional insurance runs in the fifth against lefty Ramon Benjamin. Adolfo Reina singled and Yale Rosen doubled to place two runners in scoring position. Bousfield singled to score Reina and Perez's groundout allowed Bousfield to trot across the plate, pushing the margin to 8-0.

On the mound for the Storm, Ronald Herrera (2-1) was dominant. The right-hander tied a season-high with six innings pitched, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out seven.

The Quakes (10-8) broke through in the seventh inning against reliever Walker Weickel. Kyle Farmer opened the frame with a single and scored on Jarek Cunningham's triple to left field. Brandon Trinkwon singled to center field to plate Cunningham, cutting the deficit to 8-2.

Lake Elsinore responded in the bottom of the eighth against right-hander Victor Araujo. Schulz doubled, Davis chased him home with a single and Rosen doubled home Davis, making it a 10-2 game.

Rancho Cucamonga has been outscored 10-0 in the first inning during its last three games, all losses. It comes as a stark contrast to the first 15 games of the season, in which the Quakes held the lead at least once during every contest.

After an off-day on Monday, the Quakes will return to action on Tuesday at Lancaster in the opener of a three-game series. Rancho Cucamonga will send right-hander Scott Barlow (1-1, 2.30 ERA) to the bump, while the JetHawks plan to counter with lefty Evan Grills (1-1, 5.56 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 pm at The Hangar. You can catch all the action live on FOX Sports 1350 AM or at rcquakes.com, with the pregame show starting at 6:15.

The Quakes return to LoanMart Field on Friday, May 1 against Inland Empire at 7:05 pm. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will take home a bobblehead doll of former Quake and Dodgers' star Yasiel Puig, courtesy of WaBa Grill! Gates open at 6:05. Tickets for all remaining home games are available at (909) 481-5000 or at rcquakes.com.
