Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team Wins Bronze Medal

ZUG, Switzerland - Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team has won the bronze medal at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship after a 5-2 victory over Switzerland in Sunday's third-place game.

It is Canada's fourth straight medal at the world championship; it won bronze in 2012 and 2014, and gold in 2013 . It is also Canada's seventh medal all-time at the IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship, having won three gold medals (2003, 2008, 2013), one silver (2005) and three bronze (2012, 2014, 2015).

On Sunday, Glenn Gawdin (Richmond, B.C./Swift Current, WHL) opened and closed the scoring for a Canadian offence that got points from 11 different players, and Zach Sawchenko (Calgary, Alta./Moose Jaw, WHL) made 28 saves to record the win.

Gawdin, Jansen Harkins (North Vancouver, B.C./Prince George, WHL) and Deven Sideroff (Summerland, B.C./Kamloops, WHL) scored in the first 12 minutes to give Canada an early 3-0 lead, and Brett Howden (Oakbank, Man./Moose Jaw, WHL) and Gawdin added goals in the second period after the Swiss had cut the Canadian lead to 3-2.

Players and staff with Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team will return to Canada on Monday, April 27.
