Louisville Bats News Release

COLUMBUS, Oh. - Columbus (10-7) swept the double-header on Sunday, 7-1, 4-2, sweeping the series from Louisville (6-10) at Huntington Park. The Clippers sweep the Bats in a four-game series in their home ballpark for the first time since June 30-July 3, 2006.

Game one of the double-header started off on the right foot with center fielder Ryan LaMarre hitting his first home run of the season on the second pitch of the contest off Clipper left-hander Bruce Chen. LaMarre joins Eugenio Suarez as the other Bats hitter to slug a leadoff homer this season. The Bats would not cross home plate the rest of the game, scoring just one run. It is the third time in four games that Louisville has scored two runs or less.

Manager Delino DeShields handed the ball to Raisel Iglesias for the second time this season in game one. Iglesias (0-1, 3.86) took his first loss of his affiliated baseball career, pitching four and one-third innings, allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits, walking one and striking out one. His back-to-back home runs allowed in the fifth, opened up the game for Columbus giving them a 4-1 lead in the fifth of a seven-inning game.

As for Columbus in game one Bruce Chen (2-1, 1.08), threw a seven-inning complete game allowing just the leadoff home run and three hits, not walking a batter and striking out five. On the offensive side Carlos Moncrief and Adam Moore provided the damage combining to go 5-for-5 with two home runs and 5 RBI.

Again in game two the Bats were able to get on the board in the first inning on a two-out two run double by Chris Dominguez. It is the third straight game in which Louisville has scored in the first inning. But again, it was the only runs they were able to put across the plate.

Making his Reds organization debut was right-hander Matt Magill (0-1, 7.71). He came over in the trade for Chris Heisey this winter. He pitched four and two-thirds, allowed four runs all earned, on eight hits, walked four and struck out nine. He allowed two home runs, a two run shot from Jesus Aguilar and a solo home run from Michael Martinez. On a good note, the nine strikeouts by Magill were a season high for a Louisville pitcher in 2015.

Outdueling Magill was left-hander Michael Roth (1-0, 3.38) who pitched five complete innings, allowed two runs on six hits, walked two and struck out two. He picked up his first win of the season on Sunday.

In relief of Magill was Carlos Contreras. He did not allow a run in one and one-third innings and was the only Louisville pitcher to not allow multiple runs in an appearance in the four-game series in Columbus. He has now gone five consecutive appearances without allowing a run combining six and two-thirds innings pitched.

Starting in both games of the double-header was Eugenio Suarez. He has played in all 16 games this season, all of which at the shortstop position. In game one, Suarez saw his eight-game on-base streak come to an end, a season long streak.

Staying hot and not wanting Louisville to leave town was Clipper shortstop Francisco Lindor. The Cleveland Indian number one overall prospect collected 10 hits in the four game series against the Bats raising his batting average from .191 to .302.

Irving Falu was able to extend his hitting streak to eight games with a single in the top of the seventh. He is now hitting .364 to lead the team and has a hit in 11 of 12 games played this season.

That will do it from Columbus for Louisville as they will head back home and play three games in two days. Left-hander David Holmberg (0-3, 11.37) will get the ball in game one facing off against right-hander Chris Volstad (1-1, 3.18). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT.
