Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA - The Tampa Yankees (9-8) snapped a three-game win streak after losing to the Daytona Tortugas (10-6), 7-3, on Saturday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field. The T-Yanks took the series, winning two games out of three.

The Yankees truck first with a two-run fourth inning. With runners at first and second, Kyle Higashioka hit a run-scoring single into left field. One out later, Ericson Leonora bounced an RBI ground-rule double into the Walgreens Deck in right field.

Rookie Davis struck out five of the first six batters he faced. The right-hander would not allow a hit until the fifth inning, where Daytona took the lead. Robert Ramirez hit a leadoff single and stole second. After a walk by Jeff Gelalich, Sammy Diaz hit a sacrifice bunt towards the mound. Davis attempted to get the force at third and threw the ball into left field, allowing Ramirez to score. Cam Maron and Alex Blandino added RBI singles later in the inning.

Davis (1-1) allowed three runs on three hits in five innings, walking a pair while striking out seven (tying a season-high).

The Tortugas added a couple of runs in the sixth against RHP Andrew Bailey. Sebastian Elizalde hit a leadoff home run. Taylor Sparks singled, stole second, reached third on an error and scored on a wild pitch by LHP Evan Rutckyj.

Blandino hit a two-run home run off of Rutckyj in the seventh, giving Daytona a 7-2 lead.

Tampa picked up their final run in the eighth with an RBI double by Angelo Gumbs. However, the Tortugas bullpen kept the T-Yanks relatively quiet.

RHP El'Hajj Muhammad (2-0) earned the win after pitching an inning and a third of hitless baseball. Barrett Astin, Nolan Becker and Zack Weiss combined to hold Tampa to one unearned run on two hits in three and a third, with Weiss earning his third save.

Miguel Andujar (3-for-5) led Tampa with three hits, including a double and a run scored. Matt Snyder walked three times and scored a run, going 0-for-2.

Up next, the Yankees begin a three-game set with the Clearwater Threshers on Sunday afternoon at 1 at Steinbrenner Field. LHP Chaz Hebert (0-1, 3.60 ERA) is scheduled to throw for Tampa as LHP Brandon Leibrandt (1-0, 1.42 ERA) starts for Clearwater.
