St. Lucie Mets News Release

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (April 25, 2015) - The St. Lucie Mets overcame a 3-0 deficit on Saturday and defeated the Fort Myers Miracle in extra innings for the second straight night.

Matt Oberste laced a one-out single to left-center field in the 11th to bring home Jeff McNeil and provide the Mets a 4-3 win in 11 innings. On Friday, the Mets needed 17 innings to finally beat the Miracle by the score of 4-3.

It didn't look good for the Mets when they fell behind 3-0 in the sixth on Chad Christensen's solo home run. But Michael Conforto gave the Mets a huge boost when he blasted a two-run homer off the batter's eye in the bottom of the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-2.

The Mets needed a ninth inning rally to tie the game. Conforto led off the frame with a double and Miakis De La Cruz earned a walk from Todd Van Steensel. With one out Victor Cruzado ripped a double to left that plated Conforto to tie the game 3-3. De La Cruz was gunned out at home on the relay throw trying to win the game.

Akeel Morris pitched a perfect 10th and Robby Coles worked around a two-out walk in the top of the 11th.

McNeil started the bottom of the 11th with a double against Van Steensel. Conforto was intentionally walked for the fourth time in the series and De La Cruz struck out after he was unable to get down a bunt.

That brought up Oberste who lined a pitch into left-center, scoring McNeil easily for the walk off win.

Coles got the win and Van Steensel took the loss.

A night after the Mets bullpen had to pitch 12 innings, starter Rob Whalen logged an impressive 7.2 innings. He gave up just four hits and two earned runs.

Conforto went 3 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs. McNeil had two hits and also scored twice.

Oberste and Cruzado had two hits apiece.

Miracle starter Ryan Eades gave up two runs in six innings. In 18 innings this season Eades has allowed three earned runs - all on Conforto homers.

The Mets and Miracle have now played six times with three of the games going at least 11 innings. The Mets are 2-1 in those games. Each team has won three games in the season series so far.

The Mets (9-8) hit the road to Jupiter on Sunday to play a 5:05 p.m. game at Roger Dean Stadium. The game can be heard on www.stluciemets.com with the Voice of the Mets, Adam MacDonald.
