Bats Fall to Columbus, 11-7

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Columbus Clippers (8-7) recorded a season high hit total (17) as they defeated the Louisville Bats (6-8) in the second game of the series by a score of 11-7.

Louisville started out strong early in the the 1st after short stop Eugenio Suarez stole home issued by a walk from left fielder Donald Lutz. Another run was added by third baseman Ivan De Jesus Jr. from a line drive to left field by first baseman Josh Satin. Designated hitter Steve Selsky singled off a ground ball to right field bringing home both Satin and right fielder Yorman Rodriguez making it a 4-0 lead for the Bats.

Columbus responded quickly in the bottom of the first after a double by first baseman Jesus Aguilar allowing short stop Francisco Lindor to score. The Clippers would then add on another run by right fielder Nick Swisher after a ground out by designated hitter Tyler Holt.

Bottom of the third, Columbus brought it to a 4-4 tie after a score by Lindor that was issued by a Aguilar double play.

Clipper's starting right handed pitcher, Toru Murata was pulled in the third inning after allowing three hits, four earned runs, and four walks.

Columbus tacked on another two runs in the fifth inning by way of a home run thanks to Aguilar. A single by catcher Adam Moore brought Holt home to boost the Clippers to a 5-4 lead over Louisville.

Starting right-handed pitcher for the Bats, Michael Lorenzen battled through six innings allowing 11 hits, five earned runs, one walk, seven strikeouts, and one home run.

The Clippers began to pull away from the Bats in the bottom of the eighth as they produced another six runs to bring the score to 11-4.

Louisville showed some life the top of the ninth by tacking on three runs but fell short to the Clippers, 11-7.

The Bats will face Columbus again tomorrow at 7:15 p.m. The probable pitchers are right-hander Raisel Iglesias for the Bats and left-hander pitcher Michael Roth for Columbus.
