Colorado Rapids News Release

Colorado Rapids battled back to tie 1-1 with FC Dallas at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on Friday night.

The visitors went ahead after 31 minutes when Mauro Diaz converted a cross from Fabian Castillo.

After Blas Pérez was dismissed on the hour, Rapids fought back and were rewarded when Nick LaBrocca bravely fired home 11 minutes from the end.

TEAM NEWS

Pablo Mastroeni brought in Axel Sjoberg and LaBrocca at the expense of Bobby Burling and the suspended Marcelo Sarvas. Dominique Badji returned to the attack so Gabriel Torres went to the right of midfield while Vicente Sánchez dropped to the bench.

FIRST HALF

Pérez forced a decent save from Clint Irwin early on but Rapids conjured up the first clear chance in the 10th minute when LaBrocca rattled the woodwork with a rocket shot from distance.

After that, visiting keeper Dan Kennedy scrambled the ball clear after Sjoberg tried to convert a Dillon Powers corner and then saved sharply from Gabriel Torres' cross-shot.

Rapids were on top and looking to take control. However Castillo had been lively all evening and his low cross was converted by Mauro Diaz on the half-hour. It was a goal against the run of play.

The home went in search of the equalizer. The closest they came befoe half-time was when Kennedy tipped Powers' swiveling shot around the post.

SECOND HALF

There was a spate of yellow cards straight after the interval and, in the middle, was a red. Perez clashed with Drew Moor and the referee sent off the Panamanian instantly.

The dismissal only accentuated Rapids' pursuit of a goal. Some of their approach play was delightful and, after one such move, Torres saw a shot deflected over.

With 11 minutes of regulation time remaining, the home side finally got their reward. Lucas Pittinari floated a ball to the far post and Powers nodded it down into the path of LaBrocca who, despite the onrushing Kennedy, fired low into the net.

Rapids now fancied the win. Substitute Sánchez tried to weave some magic on the wings. A couple of his crosses were nearly converted and Pittinari fired over. However the winner would not come.

Pablo Mastroeni's side is now 1-2-4 ahead of their crucial road trips to New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy next week.
