April 24, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, Md. -Anthony Caronia gave the Frederick Keys their third walk-off win of the season, with a single to center in the bottom of the 11th as the Keys defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks 4-3 on Friday night at Nymeo Field. Batting with two outs and Brenden Webb at second, Caronia dunked a single in front of Dominique Taylor, whose throw home was just late. It was also Frederick's third extra-inning win of the year, and makes the Keys the first Carolina League team to reach 10 wins.

Frederick tied the game at three in the tenth following singles by Drew Dosch and Austin Wynns and an RBI base knock by Adrian Marin. In the 11th, the Blue Rocks were stymied after Tucker Nathans gunned down Logan Moon trying to stretch a single into the double. Going to the bullpen, the Blue Rocks turned to Andrew Edwards who gave up a leadoff single to Brenden Webb. Johnny Ruettiger executed a successful sacrifice bunt, before Gregory Lorenzo flied out to center. Pinch-hitting for Jeff Kemp, Caronia fell behind against Edwards 0-2, but managed to make contact to send everyone home happy.

It did not take long for the Blue Rocks to score in extra innings as they took a 3-2 lead in the 10th inning. Dominique Taylor led off with a base hit to shortstop, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Lopez and then advanced to third by a single from Frank Schwindel. With two outs, Evans came up big again for Wilmington with a ground ball up the middle to score Taylor. Evans accounted for all three Blue Rocks RBIs going 3-for-4 with a walk.

After Wilmington grabbed its first lead of the game in the eighth on an RBI single by Evans, Frederick fought back in the ninth to force extras. Wynns led off the inning with a single, but would be thrown out at second base after a failed sacrifice bunt by Marin. With Marin on first, Nathans singled to right advancing Marin to third base bringing up Webb, who was pinch-hitting for Anthony Hewitt. Webb came up clutch again for the club as he singled to left scoring Marin and tying the game at 2-2.

It was a pitcher's duel for most of the game, but the Keys drew first blood in the fifth inning by plating a run to make it 1-0. Nathans got hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a Lorenzo single, Kemp followed suit with a single up the middle to drive in Nathans to make it 1-0 Keys.

Keys starter Matt Taylor was very sharp over five shutout innings for the Keys, giving up just one hit and striking out six and was matched pitch-for-pitch by Luis Rico. Wilmington's starter would post his first quality outing at Advanced-A allowing one run on six hits over six innings. Neither factored into the decision.

Williams Louico (2-1) earned the win for the Keys tossing a clean 11th inning. Edwards (0-1) suffered the loss giving up a run on two hits.

The Keys and the Blue Rocks play the third game of their series on Saturday afternoon. Mitch Horacek (2-1, 2.04) makes the start for the orange and black and will be opposed by right-hander Jakob Junis (1-2, 5.06). First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. while it is Star Wars Day at the ballpark. The Rebel Legion is scheduled to appear and will do light saber battles between innings.
