Winston-Salem Dash News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (April 24, 2015) - Relievers Andre Wheeler and Zach Isler dominated in the late innings of Winston-Salem's 3-2 victory at Myrtle Beach on Friday night inside TicketReturn.Com Field.

The Dash (6-9) enjoyed a 2-0 lead thanks to a Jake Peter RBI single in the third and a throwing error that chased home Keenyn Walker in the fifth. However, the Pelicans knotted the score in the fifth against Winston-Salem starter Robinson Leyer.

Myrtle Beach (9-5) mustered two in that frame due to a fielder's choice and a sacrifice fly, and Leyer exited immediately after the latter of those two run-scoring plays. Dash manager Tim Esmay turned the game over to the southpaw Wheeler (1-1), who escaped the two-on, two-out jam with a strikeout of clean-up hitter Jeimer Candelario.

Wheeler continued his stellar work by logging perfect innings in the sixth and seventh. Myrtle Beach never hit a ball out of the infield against Wheeler, who collected his first High-A win in the process.

He was eligible for the victory because of the Dash's seventh-inning tally. Cleuluis Rondon doubled on the first pitch of the frame, and Walker sacrificed him to third. On that play, however, Pelicans reliever Gerardo Concepcion (0-2) airmailed his throw toward first base, and Rondon trotted home to score what proved to be the run of distinction.

Isler replaced Wheeler in the eighth and stranded a one-out single at second base. The righty sizzled through the ninth inning flawlessly, needing only eight pitches. He whiffed Wes Darvill on a tremendous splitter to conclude his ninth professional save and his first of 2015.

With the victory, the Dash snapped a four-game skid against the first-place Pelicans to begin the season. Winston-Salem had lost nine of its previous 11 games in South Carolina before the narrow 3-2 win, the club's third single-tally victory of the campaign.

Winston and Myrtle continue this four-game set on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. from the Grand Strand. Tony Bucciferro (0-1, 5.73 ERA) will take to the hill for the Dash against fellow righty Paul Blackburn (1-0, 3.60 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:50 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.

The Dash return home Tuesday for a three-game series with the Potomac Nationals. The fun begins with the first All-You-Can-Eat Night of the season. Fans in attendance will enjoy All-You-Can-Eat hot dogs, hamburgers and cheeseburgers through the seventh inning, and normal ticket prices apply. For tickets, call the Dash at (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
