Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - In Anthony Rendon's first rehab appearance, the Harrisburg Senators were unable to come back from a six-run deficit in a 7-4 loss to the Reading Fightin' Phils before 3,265 fans at Metro Bank Park.
Rendon played five innings and went 1-for-2 with a double.
In his fourth start of the season, Austin Voth struggled, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 4.2 innings. Reading's four-run fifth inning pushed it ahead, 7-1. James Simmons followed Voth with 1.1 scoreless frames. Paul Demny impressed in two scoreless innings of work, allowing just one hit and striking out a batter. Bryan Harper finished off a solid collective bullpen outing by pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
Offensively, Harrisburg scratched across its first run with two walks and two fielder's choices in the third inning against Reading's Jesse Biddle. The Senators chased Biddle in the fifth by scoring a run and loading the bases with one out. Stephen Perez greeted Reading reliever Ryan O'Sullivan with an RBI single to right, cutting the deficit to 7-3, and keeping the bases loaded. However, the next batter, pinch-hitter Shawn Pleffner, grounded into a double play where Perez was called for interference following a hard slide at second base. Harrisburg also loaded the bases in the ninth with no outs, but scored just one run on a Caleb Ramsey RBI fielder's choice. Perez reached base in all four plate appearances with two singles and two walks. Matt Skole also had two hits, including his first triple of the season. Harrisburg went 3-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left nine runners on base.
Game three of the four-game series will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday night. Joe Ross will take the mound for Harrisburg against Reading's Zach Eflin. The game can be heard starting with the pregame show at 5:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am and iHeart Radio.
