Thunder Adds OL Longo, Reassigns WR/KR Brooks

PORTLAND - The Portland Thunder have acquired former Cincinnati Bearcat offensive lineman Sam Longo, announced head coach Mike Hohensee on Friday. The team has also place WR/KR Duane Brooks on recallable reassignment.

Longo (6-5, 305) was assigned to the Thunder on April 23, 2014, starting his first season of play in the AFL. The former Bearcat has recent experience with both the Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins.

At Cincinnati, Longo was a key cog in an offensive unit that led the American Athletic Conference in rushing with 168 yards per game. The offensive line Longo served on surrendered just 12 sacks all season in 2013, good enough for tops in the AAC, and ranking 11th nationally.

Prior to Cincinnati, Longo was a member of the Ohio State Buckeyes, where in his redshirt year the team won both the Rose Bowl and Big 10 Conference championship. His second season with the Buckeyes only saw him make one start, against Eastern Michigan in 2010. Longo sat out the 2011-2012 season as he transferred to Cincinnati.

Brooks (5-10, 185, Stephen F. Austin) played in all four games for the Thunder this season, averaging 8.25 yards per catch while tallying 12 receptions for 99 yards and one touchdown. Returning, Brooks averaged 18.7 yards from 20 attempts for 374 yards.

Duane finished the 2014 season with 60 receptions for 661 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games played.
