Aztex Look to Regain Momentum vs Switchbacks

April 23, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (Thursday, April 23, 2015) - The Aztex return to Austin this weekend looking to reverse their fortunes and regain some momentum after dropping their previous two matches. The Aztex (2-3-0) will face off against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks (2-2-0) on Saturday night at House Park in what will be the second meeting of these two teams this season. The action will kick off at 8:00 p.m. CT.

The Aztex are returning to House Park following a 2-1 loss to Los Angeles Galaxy II on Saturday, April 19. This was the second loss in two weeks for the Aztex; their last victory a 2-0 result on the road against Tulsa Roughnecks FC on April 4. So far this season, the Aztex are 2-3-0, conceding only six goals in five matches, while finding the back of the net five times themselves and shutting out their opponents twice.

Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC will be returning to House Park on Saturday night for their second appearance in Austin this season. The Switchbacks will look to build upon their success versus Salt Lake City, who they defeated in two consecutive matches with a scoring margin of 6 to 2. Demonstrating a strong central presence and creating two conversions from the penalty spot, team captain Luke Vercollone was named to this week's USL Team of the Week due to his performance in Salt Lake. Although the Switchbacks will be arriving in Austin on the heels of a victory, it was the first of their season, having lost both prior matches, including their season opener at House Park, which resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Aztex.

The Aztex will hope to have a performance as equally strong as their inaugural match against the Switchbacks in March. After scoring an important equalizer against Los Angeles Galaxy II, forward Sainey Touray will look to continue his pattern of attack, while combining forces with forward Kris Tyrpak, who found the back of the net twice when the Aztex faced Tulsa Roughnecks FC on the road on April 4.

With the Aztex looking to get back on track and the Switchbacks hoping to continue their success on the road, this week's match promises to bring both teams out in full force. Following Saturday night's match up, the Aztex will take on Oklahoma City Energy FC at House Park on Friday, May 1 at 8:00 p.m. Live updates for both matches will also be available on Twitter via @Aztex_Matchcast.
