Match Preview: OC Blues FC at Sacramento Republic FC
April 23, 2015 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. (April 23, 2015) - Orange County Blues FC travels north to Sacramento to take on the 2014 USL champions, Sacramento Republic FC, on Friday, April 24th at Bonney Field. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. PT.
Coming off a 3-0 shutout against Arizona United SC, Head Coach Oliver Wyss is looking to do more damage up north against the defending champions. The Blues hope to go in strong against Republic FC with the help of captain Didier Crettenand, who has scored one goal and recorded two assists over the past three games, making the Swiss player a valuable contribution to the Blues midfield. Goalkeeper Pepe Miranda has appeared in the last two matches and in both has recorded two shutouts, currently tied for first in the league's Goals Against Average standings.
Sacramento is currently in first place in the Western Conference with a record of 4-2-0 and a total of 12 points. Last season, the Blues held a record of 1-3-0 against Sacramento. With former Blues goalkeeper Patrick McLain in goal and midfielder Rodrigo Lopez, another former Blue who currently leads the league in goals scored, Republic FC will be a tough opponent, but the Orange County is looking forward to the matchup.
"I am looking forward to a good game. With two consecutive shutouts, we are growing as a team on and off the field," stated Blues defender Romeo Filipovic. "Our confidence is really high right now and we believe in the quality of players we have. If we execute our game plan as good as we did against Arizona, we won't come back to Orange County with empty hands."
Fans can support the Blues this Friday by watching the live stream on YouTube/SacRepublicFC. Also follow the team's Snapchat (@OCBluesFC) as defender Jimmy Turner will be sharing moments from the trip.
