Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - The Jackson Generals and Tennessee Smokies matched each other with four runs apiece in the first inning, but Tennessee added nine unanswered runs for a 13-4 win on Wednesday at The Ballpark at Jackson. Dario Pizzano led Jackson's offense with a three-run home run during a three-hit performance while Tennessee received four hits by Kyle Schwarber and five runs batted in from Dan Vogelbach.

Tennessee's four-run outburst to start the game was answered by a game-tying rally from Jackson. Vogelbach launched a three-run homer, and Elliot Soto produced an RBI single for the Smokies in their half of the opening inning. Jordy Lara put Jackson on the scoreboard with a run-scoring single of his own. Two batters later, Pizzano's round-tripper tied the contest at 4-4.

The Smokies reclaimed the lead in the top of the second and extended that advantage to 7-4 in the third inning. Pin-Chieh Chen led off the second with a single and later scored during a bases-loaded walk to Vogelbach. In the third, Anthony Giansanti scored on an error, and Soto came home when Schwarber bounced into a force out.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Tennessee (7-5) boosted its lead to 13-4 by scoring in four straight frames. Albert Almora Jr. picked up a sacrifice fly during the fifth inning. Soto doubled home Stephen Bruno in the sixth for another run. In a three-run rally during the seventh, Vogelbach posted an RBI double before Bruno later drove in two runs on a single. Ryan Dent closed the scoring in the eighth with his first home run of the year.

Although Jackson (4-7) was scoreless over the final eight innings, Pizzano continued a productive night at the plate. He picked up two singles in his first plate appearances after his three-run blast in the first inning. Pizzano finished the game with a 3-for-4 while collecting his first home run of the season. He also holds a team-best five-game hit streak.

The winning pitcher was Tennessee's Ivan Pineyro (1-0), who posted six strikeouts over 5.2 innings pitched. Generals southpaw Scott DeCecco (0-3) took the loss after allowing four runs in only 0.2 innings, yielding three of Jackson's season-high eight walks. The Generals still have a 2-1 advantage in this five-game series against the Smokies.
