New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

TRENTON, N.J. - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell in another one-run game, a 2-1 defeat Wednesday at the hands of the Trenton Thunder in front of 3,780 fans at Arm & Hammer Park.

The Fisher Cats (6-8) are 3-3 this season in one-run games, with all three losses coming on this road swing. The Thunder (8-5) took the series from the Fisher Cats, who head back to Manchester looking to shake off the 1-6 road trip.

Trenton broke through first in the bottom of the second against Fisher Cats starter Casey Lawrence (L, 0-3). Taylor Dugas led off the frame with a single to right-center field, and advanced to third base on a double by Francisco Arcia. After a strikeout by Cito Culver, Mason Williams lofted a sacrifice fly to center field, plating Dugas and giving Trenton the 1-0 lead.

New Hampshire powered their way back into the game in the top of the fourth inning. With nobody out, Jake Fox powered an 0-1 fastball up in the zone over the left-field fence for his third homer of the year. The round-tripper off Trenton starter Taylor Garrison evened the game at 1-1.

In the bottom of the sixth frame, the Thunder broke the deadlock. Dugas snuck aboard on a fielding error by second baseman Jon Berti, and advanced to second when Arcia drew a walk from Lawrence. Culver welcomed New Hampshire reliever Matt West to the game with a single to left, scoring Dugas and putting Trenton ahead to stay 2-1. The Fisher Cats got a runner to third with two outs in the eighth, but Kevin Nolan flew out to Dugas in left field to end the threat.

Lawrence took the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks while fanning four. West gave up just one hit in 1.2 innings of action, allowing one inherited runner to score. Danny Barnes tossed a scoreless frame of relief while surrendering one hit.

Garrison took a no-decision for the Thunder, with one earned run on five hits and a walk. He fanned three in five innings of work. Johnny Barbato (W, 2-0) earned the victory with two scoreless innings of action, whiffing three and allowing a hit and a walk. He also hit Schimpf with a pitch. Kyle Haynes threw a shutout inning of relief, walking one, striking out one, and dealing two wild pitches. Mark Montgomery (S, 3) got the save for the second consecutive day with a perfect inning of relief, notching one strikeout.

The Fisher Cats are back at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium Thursday, facing the Binghamton Mets. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with Fisher Cats RHP Mike Lee getting the ball against Binghamton righty Gabriel Ynoa. Radio coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Bob Lipman on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and at www.nhfishercats.com.

The seven-game homestead begins with a Thursday Night Rock 101 DJ and Atlas Fireworks. Curious George and The Man in the Yellow Hat will visit Northeast Dental Dental Stadium during the homestand from April 24-26.
