Jackson Generals News Release
Jackson, Tenn. - Dan Paolini drove in his first runs of 2015 with a two-run double in the eighth inning Tuesday night, giving Jackson a 5-3 win over the Tennessee Smokies at the Ballpark at Jackson. For the second night in a row, the Generals won despite trailing after the sixth inning.
With the game tied at three in the bottom of the eighth, Jack Reinheimer and Jordy Lara set the table for Paolini (1-for-2, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 BB) with a single and a walk respectively. With two outs, Paolini smashed a double over a leaping Albert Almora, Jr. to plate both runners and give the Generals a 5-3 lead.
Matt Anderson (S, 2) was spotless in the ninth inning, striking out a pair of top prospects in Almora and Kyle Schwarber to earn his second save of the year. The win gave Jackson consecutive victories for the first time in 2015.
Jackson (4-6) trailed for much of the contest, but was able to score twice in the seventh without the benefit of a hit to tie the game. Down 3-1, Gabriel Guerrero and Paolini walked to lead off the frame. After a sacrifice bunt moved both men into scoring position, Steve Baron drove in his team-leading sixth run of the season on a groundout to make it 3-2. With the tying run 90 feet away, Zach Shank struck out but the inning continued as a passed ball from Kyle Schwarber allowed Paolini to score the tying run.
Tennessee (6-5) jumped out to an early lead for a second-straight night. Pin-Chieh Chen tripled to lead off the first, and then came into score on an Almora sacrifice fly to right field.
The Generals tied the game in the bottom of the third thanks to a two-out RBI single for D.J. Peterson (1-for-4, RBI). Steve Baron reached on an error to lead off the inning and stole second to get into scoring position.
The Smokies promptly answered with a pair of runs in the fourth inning against Stephen Landazuri. Almora and Schwarber both hit run-scoring singles in to make it 3-1. Landazuri struck out six while giving up three runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings. He has yet to walk a batter in 13.2 innings of work in 2015.
James Gillheeney (2-0, 1.04) earned his second win of the season, giving up just two hits in 2.1 scoreless innings in relief of Landazuri. Stephen Perakslis (1-1, 5.40) took the loss for Tennessee after allowing four Jackson runs on two hits and three walks in two innings of work.
