Carlos Sanchez Named IL Player of the Week

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Carlos Sanchez -- the International League's leader in batting average with an impressive .485 mark --was named as the IL Player of the Week for the period of April 13-19, as announced by the International League of Professional Baseball Clubs, Inc. this morning. Sanchez, who began the season in Chicago with the White Sox, has hit safely in all seven games he's played in this season with the Charlotte Knights.
A native of Maracay, VE, Sanchez appeared in six games for the Knights last week and hit a stunning .536 (15-for-28) with six runs scored, four doubles, six RBIs, and one stolen base. The 22-year-old slick-fielding infielder is currently tied for second overall in the IL in hits (16), ranked third in on-base percentage (.500), and fourth in slugging percentage (.606).
Originally signed by the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on May 6, 2009, Sanchez owns a career .287 batting average over seven Minor League seasons (504 games). He hit .293 (128-for-437) with 60 runs scored, 19 doubles, six triples, seven home runs, and 57 RBIs for the Knights last season in 110 games. He led the 2014 Knights in triples and stolen bases (16).
Sanchez and the Knights will open a four-game series with the Durham Bulls tonight at 7:05 p.m. from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. RHP Shawn Haviland (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start tonight for the Knights. The Knights return home to BB&T Ballpark on Monday, April 27 to open a seven-game homestand, which features Star Was Knight (April 28), an 11:05 a.m. Education Day game presented by Duke Energy (April 29), Superhero Knight with pro wrestler Shane "Hurricane" Helms (April 30), Friday Night Fireworks presented by BB&T and 107.9 The Link (May 1), and Homer's Halloween with a Trick-or-Treat Bag Giveaway (May 3).
