Stockton Ports News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - It was a very quiet afternoon for the Stockton Ports offense in their first matinee of the season at Banner Island Ballpark on Sunday. Stockton mustered just five hits and no extra-base hits as they dropped the finale of their four-game set to the Visalia Rawhide by a final of 7-0, marking the second time in the series they were shut out. With the loss, the Ports settle for a series split in their first home series of the season.

Ports starter Lou Trivino, facing Fidel Pena to begin the second inning, was struck with a line drive back to the mound in his midsection. Trivino, after being visited by the coaches and trainer, would be lifted from the game due to injury and replaced by Sam Bragg (0-1). Bragg allowed three straight hits to begin his emergency relief outing, a single to Stewart Ijames, a double to Chuck Taylor, and then a two-run double to Michael Perez that gave the Rawhide a 2-0 lead.

Visalia widened its lead in the fourth. After back-to-back strikeouts started the inning for Bragg, Ijames came to bat and hit a solo homer to right, his second of the series, to make it 3-0. After a single by Taylor, Perez hit a two-run homer to right to stretch the lead to 5-0.

Bragg suffered the loss, going 2.2 innings and allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out two.

Meanwhile, Rawhide starter Anthony Banda (3-0) was in command all afternoon. Banda tossed six scoreless innings while scattering five singles, two of the infield variety as he picked up his third win of the season.

The Rawhide added two late runs, the first coming in the seventh on an RBI single by Domingo Leyba off Ports reliever Joel Seddon. In the ninth, Perez doubled off Brendan McCurry to lead off the frame and scored later in the frame on a fielder's choice groundout by Leyba to make it a 7-0 advantage.

Seddon allowed one run on four hits in three innings of work. McCurry allowed the one run on two hits in two innings of relief.

Kevin Vance (SV, 1) pitched three perfect innings to close out the game for the Rawhide and earned a three-inning save.

After splitting a four-game set with Visalia, the Ports welcome the Bakersfield Blaze to Banner Island Ballpark to begin a three-game set on Monday night. Dylan Covey (1-1, 4.82 ERA) makes the start for Stockton, opposed by Bakersfield left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (0-1, 2.70 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. PDT.
