Austin Aztex News Release

CARSON, Calif. (Sunday, April 19, 2015) - The Austin Aztex (2-3-0) were unable to hold of the Los Angeles Galaxy II (1-3-1), allowing a late game-winning goal in the 84th minute in a 2-1 loss Sunday afternoon at the StubHub Center Track and Field Stadium in Carson, Calif.

Ariel Lassiter started the scoring in the 65th minute for the home team while Aztex forward Sainey Touray equalized with his second goal of the season in the 80th minute. Los Angeles playmaker Raul Mendiola put Los Dos ahead for good in the 84th minute.

In a match featuring two squads with playoff aspirations yet with early season struggles, both teams took a methodical, cautious approach to begin the first half. While the Aztex started well with possession, they were unable to threaten Los Angeles goalkeeper Clement Diop.

Meanwhile, Aztex goalkeeper Cody Laurendi was able to keep the Aztex in the game with a series of point blank saves.

Los Dos would finally find a way to get past Laurendi in the 65th minute. Midfielder Alejandro Covarrubias started a counter off of an Aztex free kick when he hit a long ball to Raul Mendiola. Mendiola then set up Ariel Lassiter for the show, which curled around Laurendi.

The Aztex would fight back, leading to an equalizer from second half substitute Sainey Touray. Tony Rocha curled a pass toward the back side of the goal, where Drew Yates would head the ball back across the face of the goal. Diop was able to punch the ball away, but the loose ball found Touray, who hit it into the open goal.

While the Aztex pulled even, Los Dos proved to have the final punch when Mendiola received a pass from Ryo Fujii and then created room before hitting the ball into the Aztex goal.

The Austin Aztex return Austin and face the Colorado Springs Switchbacks at House Park on Saturday, April 25th at 8:00 p.m. CT. Tickets can be purchased online at www.austinaztex.com.
