Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

HAGERSTOWN, MD - Phillips Valdez threw six scoreless innings to lead Hagerstown to a 5-0 win over the BlueClaws on Sunday afternoon at Municipal Stadium.

The win gave Hagerstown (5-5) three wins in the four game series with Lakewood (5-6), and the BlueClaws dropped their fourth game in their last five. The BlueClaws are now under .500 for the first time this year.

Valdez scattered five hits over his six shutout innings to improve to 1-1 on the year, while Ryan Ullman got the last nine outs for his first save of the season.

Hagerstown got on the board in the 2nd inning, scoring a pair of unearned runs against Chris Oliver. Raudy Reed's RBI single made it 1-0 and Reed came in on a groundout by Brennan Middleton to give Hagerstown a 2-0 lead.

The BlueClaws left a runner at 3rd base in the top of the 5th inning and the Suns would widen the lead in the bottom of the inning.

After a balk on Oliver moved a runner to 3rd, Austin Davidson was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base. Dale Carey followed with an RBI double and Jose Marmolejos added a 2-run double to push the Suns lead to 5-0.

BlueClaws starter Oliver (1-1) allowed five runs (three earned) over five innings. Jesen Therrien threw three scoreless innings of relief for the BlueClaws.

Carlos Tocci went 3-4 for Lakewood, and the 19-year old has now hit safely in his last six games for the BlueClaws.

The BlueClaws head to Greensboro and open a three-game series there against the Grasshoppers on Monday night. LHP Elneiry Garcia (1-0) gets the start for Lakewood against LHP Michael Mader (0-2).
