Mississippi RiverKings News Release

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Mississippi RiverKings, 4-2, in Game 2 of the President's Cup Final Saturday night at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The Ice Bears won their fourth President's Cup in franchise history, sweeping the best-of-three series, two games to zero.

The Ice Bears raced out of the gates to a 1-0 lead just 2:04 into the first period. The RiverKings turned the puck over in the neutral zone and Eric Satim scooped it up and started a 2-on-1. Satim fired a shot from the left circle, which trickled off the arm of Peter Di Salvo and in for a 1-0 game.

The RiverKings controlled play over the final two periods, but Bryan Hince, named playoff MVP, made several great stops. He faced 31 shots over the final two periods. Knoxville took a 2-0 lead at 8:18 when they scored on a rebound at the left circle. Francis Drolet swatted the loose puck past Di Salvo on a third try. Just over three minutes later Matt Whitehead made it a one-goal game with a shot from the left circle on a breakaway at 11:43. The Ice Bears went up by two again at 15:12 on an odd-man rush than Satim finished for a 3-1 lead heading into the third.

In the final period the RiverKings again pressed, but were matched by Hince. With 1:21 to play in the third Matthew Paton buried an empty-net goal to make it 4-1 Ice Bears. The RiverKings would get one back with a minute to play when Mike Grace fired a slap shot from the left circle, making it a 4-2 final.
