Williams Leads Intimidators Offense to Win

KANNAPOLIS, NC- The Intimidators mashed a season-high 16 hits en route to a 10-9 win over the Hickory Crawdads in front of 3,925 at CMC-NorthEast Stadium Saturday night. Kannapolis (4-6) plated a season-high 10 runs, including three runs apiece in the first, second, and fourth innings.
Eddy Alvarez started the Intimidators offensive onslaught by leading of the bottom of the first with a triple. He scored on a Michael Suiter groundout. Catcher Brett Austin later knocked in two more runs in the inning to give Kannapolis a early 3-1 lead.
After Hickory tied the game in the top half of the second, the Intimidators countered when T.J. Williams ripped a triple into the right-center field gap, scoring Louie Lechich and Nolan Earley. Suiter followed that up by singling to score Williams to put the Intimidators ahead, 6-3.
Starting pitcher Thad Lowry (2-0) weathered early struggles and turned in a quality start, going 6.0 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits while fanning a season-high six batters.
Eight of nine starters had hits including four players with more than two RBI. Williams paced the club, going 3-for-3 with three RBI. Austin went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBI to up his early-season average to .480.
The Intimidators closed the game out by using a committee of relievers. Brad Salgaodo, Brett Bruening, and Devon Davis all worked an inning to secure the victory.
The Intimidators and Crawdads conclude this 4-game series on Sunday at 5:05 p.m. when RHP Luis Martinez (0.0 2.25) faces Hickory's LHP Brett Martin (0.0 9.00).
