Senators Snap Losing Skid with 7-5 Win

April 18, 2015 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators snapped their three-game losing streak with a 7-5 win over the Binghamton Mets on Saturday afternoon in New York. The game was a marathon, lasting 3:37 but the Senators didn't mind as they held on for the win, one day after giving up three in the ninth.

Abel De Los Santos came on in the ninth inning for an apparently injured Robert Benincasa and saved the game for the Senators, stranding the tying runs on base with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. The Senators received solid relief work from Sammy Solis and Gilberto Mendez as well, allowing just one run and no walks in four innings of work. Mendez earned his second win of the season.

Tied into the ninth inning, the Senators put their first two men on base and with one out, they moved to second and third for Pedro Severino. Severino then delivered a single into shallow right center field to score Matt Skole and Kevin Keyes, giving the Sens a 7-5 lead. Severino had two hits for the second straight game and knocked in three runs.

The big blow in the Senators four run fifth inning came off the bat of Ricky Hague as he emptied the bases with a double. He had two hits, both doubles in the game, and now has five doubles in the first three games of the series. Caleb Ramsey joined Severino and Hague with two hits. Mario Lisson was assigned to the Senators prior to the game and had a hit, a double, but may have saved the game in the eighth inning as he sprawled to his right, speared a shot down the line, then started a third-to-first double play.

The Senators look to gain a split of the four-game series Sunday afternoon with RH Austin Voth on the hill. Game time Sunday is 1:05 p.m. and the game can be heard on Fox Sports 1460am and on the iHeart Radio app, or online, beginning at 12:50 p.m.
