New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The New Britain Rock Cats came away with the 5-1 victory against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday afternoon.

New Britain put together a 10 hit attack and better yet, added two stolen bases which is an Eastern League-best 15 stolen through the first 10 games. The Rock Cats have also secured their best home start since 2012 when they won their first three games against Richmond.

The visitors did come out swinging against Rock Cats starter LHP Yohan Flande, picking up four singles in the top half of the first. A bloop single from 1B K.C. Hobson scored LF Dwight Smith, giving the Fisher Cats an early 1-0 advantage.

A well-executed hit-and-run play in the Rock Cats half of the second not only tied up the score but ignited a four run inning for New Britain.

After a 3B Jayson Langfels leadoff single, 1B Dean Espy lifted a fly ball that fell just in front of Smith. Langfels came all the way around from first to score and kicked off the run parade on New Hampshire starter RHP Mike Lee. C Abel Baker then singled to put runners on first and third and 2B Juan Ciriaco dropped a sacrifice bunt that would score Espy after the first baseman Hobson threw home wide of C Jack Murphy. RF Tyler Massey capped off the scoring with a two-run single, plating both Baker and Ciriaco, but would get thrown out stretching the single into a double.

The Cats' went up by the score of 5-1 when New Britain's 3-4-5 hitters strung together three straight base hits, highlighted by an RBI single by LF Mike Tauchman that scored SS Trevor Story. Tauchman's line drive also was enough to knock Lee out of the game after 4 2/3 innings.

Flande did a great job of quieting the Fisher Cats bats after the loud first inning. The southpaw went six innings, allowing the one run on eight hits while walking none and striking out three, improving to 2-0 in the 2015 season.

Lee was touched for five runs, four earned, on seven hits while walking three and striking out five. He falls to 0-1 as the Rock Cats are now tied with the Fisher Cats at 5-5 in the Eastern League's Eastern Division.

Sunday's afternoon matinee begins at 1:35 p.m. and will see Rock Cats RHP Matt Flemer square off against New Hampshire starter LHP John Anderson.
