Chihuahuas Win First Road Game of the Season

April 18, 2015 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

James Needy picked up his first Triple-A win in the El Paso Chihuahuas 4-2 victory over the Tacoma Rainiers Friday night. Needy pitched six innings and allowed only one run on three hits. It was the fifth consecutive game that the Chihuahuas' starter allowed three runs or less.

Jesus Montero's two-out single in the first inning scored James Jones from third base and gave the Rainiers an early 1-0 lead. The Chihuahuas took a 2-1 advantage in the third inning as a result of Mike Kickham's erratic pitches. The Tacoma hurler walked four batters in the inning, including both Austin Hedges and Cody Decker with the bases loaded.

Neither side scored in the fourth through seventh innings. Decker provided two insurance runs in the eighth with a line drive home run over the left field fence, his second homer of 2015. Those insurance runs were helpful in the end, as Tacoma scored a run in the bottom of the ninth.

The Chihuahuas' bullpen has struck out 21 hitters over the last three games. Friday's game was Tacoma's home opener.
