Jackson Generals News Release

Jackson, Tenn. - All nine Jackson starters recorded a hit, but the Generals fell 6-5 in 12 innings on Friday night in front of 4,264 at the Ballpark at Jackson. With an exhausted bullpen, Generals catcher Carlton Tanabe pitched the 12th inning and gave up the game-winning home run to Chris O'Dowd.

With most of Jackson's pitchers having thrown over the past two days, Tanabe (0-1, 9.00) made just his second-career appearance on the mound in the 12th inning of a tie game. Tanabe struck out David Rohm to start the inning, but Chris O'Dowd (3-for-6, HR, 3 RBIs) followed with a solo shot to right field that gave Mississippi a 6-5 edge.

Jackson (2-5) got a leadoff single from Jabari Henry in the home-half of the inning, but Ryan Kelly (S, 3) struck out the next three hitters to secure the win.

The Generals took their first lead of the ballgame in the sixth inning. With the game tied at three, Steve Baron and Jack Reinheimer each drove in runs with singles to give Jackson a 5-3 edge. The Generals sent eight men to the plate in the sixth, but left the bases loaded with a chance to do more damage. Jackson left 14 men on the bases Friday night.

The visitors took advantage of Jackson's missed opportunity, striking twice in the ninth. An error, a single and a walk loaded the bases for Mississippi, prompting a Jackson pitching change. Matt Anderson gave up a two-run single to Kevin Ahrens, the first batter he faced, to tie the game 5-5 and send it into extras.

The Generals were forced to play catch-up for most of the night. Mississippi (4-4) scored runs in the first and third to take a 2-0 lead before Jackson answered. With runners on second and third, Jack Reinheimer's ground ball got under the glove of Braves' shortstop Emerson Landoni to plate two runs and tie the game.

Mississippi took the lead again in the fifth with an RBI single from O'Dowd, but the Generals knotted the game back up in the bottom of the inning. With one out, Jack Reinheimer doubled and D.J. Peterson (3-for-6, 2B) singled to put men on the corners. Reinheimer would come into score on a passed ball to make it 3-3.

All nine Jackson starters recorded a hit in the contest, and five had multi-hit games. D.J. Peterson led the way with three knocks. The 15 hits for the Generals were a season-high, as were the 12 innings of play and the 4:28 game time. Prior to Friday, Jackson's longest game was 2:47.

The series continues on Saturday night with Dylan Unsworth (0-1, 6.75) getting the ball for Jackson against Mississippi's Greg Ross (0-1, 23.62). First pitch is at 6:05 pm CT, and the game will be live on the TJ Network (AM 1390, FM 94.1 and 94.3) starting with the Jackson Generals Pregame Show protected by the Tennessee Army National Guard at 5:50 pm.

Fans will enjoy the first of 12 fireworks shows on Saturday, as it is Educators Appreciation Night sponsored by the University of Memphis! The Inflatamaniacs will also be putting on a show thanks to Froggy 104!
